Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Laura Michaels Design!
Four questions with Laura Michaels, founder of Laura Michaels Design.
Why did you start your business?
I originally opened a design studio to showcase some of my own exclusive designs that I found people were struggling to visualize. I wanted to create kitchen and bath cabinets with unusual inserts. Once I installed these cabinets in my shop my business grew enormously and I was able to create a more unusual product.
What is your best-selling product/service?
I did over 100 bathrooms last year so I would have to say bathrooms are our current strength with kitchens coming in second. We are known for our spa-like interiors and luxury cabinetry.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
I feel we are constantly evolving. I always look for new sources who can provide the best product at prices the clients are willing to spend. These prices vary widely and are determined by the client’s budget. I became a stocking dealer with tile, lighting, and furniture to make sure I was competitively priced and could be of interest to developers. This reimagined my business and has given us tremendous growth and visibility.
