Three questions with Linda Geiger, founder of Anxiety Institute.
Why did you start your business?
We started Anxiety Institute due to youth and adolescent anxiety disorders increasing at an unprecedented rate, both before and during the pandemic. Anxiety in youth is complex and no one place had assembled the necessary professionals to treat the entirety of the child, vs. their symptoms only.
Parents frequently go down roads that cost time and money only to be disappointed by no lasting change. We solve that problem by assessing and treating all the contributing factors of the anxiety and providing enduring results.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Our best-selling service would be our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Our Institute employs professionals that manage all aspects of acute anxiety and the adolescent. The child is assessed through multiple modalities and then receives an individualized therapy plan whose components are addressed by the appropriate specialist(s). While some children may need exposure therapy, others may need an alternate form of therapy. While some children feel a strong mind-body connection, others may want a more experiential approach. Other places often use a generic plan for every child.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
We work closely with a business in Greenwich called Alliance Tutoring. Alliance Tutoring is similar to us in its dynamic approach to the student. They work with students of all different learning abilities and take a global look at the student, not just cope with the symptom of poor academics. They have experience working with students with anxiety.
Anxiety can have adverse effects on learning. An acutely anxious student may appear absent-minded, simply because they are preoccupied, or maybe absent frequently. By working on the whole child, and working with the impact of anxiety on education, many aspects of the student’s life improve. We are thrilled to be working with them.
