Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Wildacre Rotisserie!

Four questions with Ben Pote, founder of Wildacre Rotisserie.

Why did you start your business?

I saw a unique opportunity in Cos Cob's evolving culinary landscape to bring a fresh take on the traditional rotisserie to the neighborhood.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our customers are loving our chicken. It's a pasture-raised, ABF, verified non-GMO chicken from Cooks Venture in Decatur, AR. We rub it with a house seasoning blend that includes oregano, bay leaf, and fennel pollen and slow-roast it in the rotisserie until it's nice and golden brown.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We source our brownie from Cloudy Lane Bakery in Westport, a female-owned small business owned and run by Dani LeBlanc. We also source our kombuchas from Feel Good Booch, a small-batch kombucha producer based in White Plains founded by three ex-Blue Hill at Stone Barns bartenders and chefs.

As we settle in, we'll continue to cultivate new relationships with local businesses to support the local network.

Have you reimagined your small business?

It feels like we reimagine something every day! We're always learning new ways to prepare our food, or lay out our kitchen, or create the best customer experience possible. As a new small business, no idea is a bad idea when it comes to serving delicious food to our community.
