Step inside Neely's Nest Pet Home Goods and meet founder, Terri Fish.

Why did you start your business?

Growing up, there was always room for one more dog! Terri grew up in Georgia surrounded by a loving family (both furry and human). German Shepherds, an Alaskan Malamute, three Poodles, three Beagles, a rescue Doberman, and a Mini Pin were all a part of her bustling childhood home at one time or another. The family motto was “there is always room for one more dog,” a saying that still applies to her own family today.

Terri left home to attend the University of Georgia and entered the career world with an opportunity to work overseas, sourcing various products and managing relationships with the factories producing them. While she loved her time overseas, she desperately missed having a canine companion.

After getting married, settling down in Connecticut, and having children, Terri was finally able to re-create the warm, pet-friendly environment of her youth by welcoming two dogs to her family: a rescue black Lab named Bronson and her sweet girl Neely, a yellow Lab from Kentucky.

While visiting friends in the UK on their cattle farm, she fell in love with yet another dog - Patsy, a resident working Cocker Spaniel. Patsy slept in a luxurious rattan dog bed with a unique raised design, the clear cozy favorite of all the household dogs. Terri headed home with a mission to find a dog bed like Patsy’s and a promise from her friends that if Patsy had puppies, she’d be the first to know. A few years later, Patsy delivered a litter - and true to their word, Terri’s friends immediately notified her.

She and her husband surprised their daughter with a trip to England to pick up Lady Margaret of Cornwall (aka Maggie -their own working Cocker!). The hunt for the dog bed, however, was not as successful. Terri scoured the internet for a beautiful raised rattan bed with clean lines and elegant design that would match the aesthetics of her home but came up short. So, she decided to design one for herself.

Leveraging her old connections, Terri found the ideal manufacturer to help her create her very own line of raised dog beds, using sustainable rattan and high-performance fabrics to create beautiful handcrafted designs that are indeed both aesthetically pleasing and functional. And with that, Neely’s Nest was born!
