You're IT Nicole C. Yule Licensed Speech - Language Pathologist (Specializing in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy)

Three questions with Nicole Yule.

Why did you start your business?

I first started my business to help serve children in need of individualized and comprehensive speech and language services in a one-on-one setting.

What is your best-selling product/service?

I evaluate and treat clients with speech and language challenges. I see many students who have difficulty producing specific speech sounds or need help developing a vocabulary or using their vocabulary so that they can clearly express their ideas. Parents, teachers, and pediatricians refer to me if they notice they are having difficulty understanding what a child is trying to say, think that a child is speaking differently from children the same age, a child is having difficulty telling others what he or she wants; or if a child has difficulty understanding what other people are saying.

I also evaluate and work with many children and adults in orofacial myofunctional therapy. Orofacial myofunctional therapy aims to correct and retrain the muscles in the mouth for chewing, swallowing (e.g., tongue thrust), and speech sounds.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I had to "reimagine" my small business during COVID-19. It was a challenging time for speech-language pathologists. The pandemic forced me to rethink the most effective way to serve my clients while taking into account their own specific needs. I was not able to see the client's tongue, lips, or jaws move with masking, so I needed to find a solution quickly.

With supportive parents, caregivers and innovation, I was able to provide effective treatment to many of my clients via telehealth with fun online speech games. Since that time, I have been able to extend my service to clients not only to individuals or families in the local area but in other states where I am licensed as well.
