
MARK D. BOUGHTON, LONGEST SERVING MAYOR IN CITY OF DANBURY HISTORY
At 12:01 pm today, Mark D. Boughton began his 7th term as Mayor of the City of Danbury, and as such, made his way into the history books as the longest serving Mayor in the City of Danbury.
Mayor Mark Boughton explained, "I am truly humbled by the support and confidence the Danbury voters have placed in me over the last twelve years. My service to this community continues unwavering as I begin my seventh term; there is still more that is left to be done and I am excited to be a part of the bright future of Danbury."
Born and raised in Danbury, Mayor Boughton attended Danbury public schools and graduated from Danbury High School in 1982. Upon graduation, he remained in his home state and attended Central Connecticut State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in History. He went on to receive his Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
Mark served in the United States Army Reserve where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He returned to Danbury High School to teach Social Studies, as a highly regarded educator he has been, and continues to be, a leading advocate of quality education for all children.
In 2001, Mark won his bid for Mayor and has remained committed to a top notch educational system, the revitalization of downtown, infrastructure enhancement, improving quality of life issues, and expanding citizens' access to government. His "People Over Politics" philosophy has evolved into a bi-partisan form of governing.
Mayor Boughton is married to Phyllis Boughton, who is his biggest supporter. Phyllis is also the owner and manager of Connecticut Kitchen and Bath located in Danbury.
