Monroe was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, September 5, 1932, one of nine children of the late Elsie (Coles) Monroe and Charlie Mitchell Monroe. She attended Pittsylvania County schools. Adele was united in holy matrimony on June 3, 1950, in Chatham, VA to the love of her life Henry Thelbert “Son” Harris. After moving to Danbury, in 1956, Adele was briefly employed by Pride Cleaners before she followed her true calling and became a homemaker. Family and friends, who often became family, were Adele’s true passion and source of happiness, lovingly accepting, encouraging and supporting while always being a true nurturer. She has been both a mother and grandmother to many, regularly sharing meals she affectionately prepared in the Harris home.
Adele was a faithful and dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 47 years where she was active with the 60 Plus Ministry. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud and was an avid fan of the University of Connecticut Huskies men and women Basketball teams. Adele, Daughter Harris, was also a long-time member of the Jennie Bryant Temple #1187 where she served as the Door Keeper for many years.
Adele Harris entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2017, at the age of 84, in her home. Adele leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Dottie Harris, Doreen Barnes (Kerzent), Maxine Perkins (Jerry) all of Danbury, CT and Cynthia Furman (Michael) of Florence, SC; a daughter-in-law, Susie Harris of New Milford, CT; two brothers, Robert M Monroe, Sr. of Grenta, VA and Morgan “Dynamite” Monroe; of Washington, DC; ten grandchildren, Angela Harris, Jaiwan (Sekeia) Harris, Jason (Jamelia) Harris, Lawanda Perkins, Leah Harris, Kerzell Barnes, Travon Harris, and Cayenne Curtis; three great- granddaughters, Pershaya Harris, Tiana Harris and Layla Barnes; six great- grandsons, Cameron Perkins, Langston and Nile Harris, Micah Curtis, and Aaron Harris; two honorary daughters, Janie Taylor and Lois Smith; two Goddaughters, Shari Smith (William) and Devon Dillard. She also leaves to cherish her memory a brother-in-law Walter George Harris and sister-in-law Debbie Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Two Devoted friends Lillian Riley and Lee Guyton. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Thelbert Harris, her son, Thelbert “Junebug” Harris; four brothers Charlie Monroe, Osbain Monroe, Younger Monroe, Early Monroe and three sisters, Estelle Monroe, Ester Gilbert, Belausa Monroe and Shirley Harris.
