Tim Dunn Leads Immaculate High School's Athletic Program

Tim Dunn of Waterbury has joined Immaculate High School as Athletic Director. Dunn brings vast experience to the school’s athletic department, both as soldier, athlete, physical education instructor, coach and AD.

“I joined Immaculate with an appreciation for its outstanding students, college-preparatory programs and its Christ-centered mission as well as for its excellent athletic programs,” said Dunn. “I hope my experience and commitment helps to strengthen all of our sports teams and help bring out the best in all of our student-athletes. I plan on taking our strong athletic program to its fullest potential and help our student-athletes perform the best they can both on the fields/courts and in the classroom,” he noted.

Dunn will oversee 32 sports teams at Immaculate. “We have such tremendous coaches, as evident by all the State championships our teams have won and accolades and honors our athletes have earned. Assistant Athletic Director Dean White and I will make sure they all feel supported and their voices are heard,” he said.

Dunn’s relationship with Immaculate High School began as the Varsity Outside Linebacker/Running Back Coach and Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator for the Immaculate/Abbott Tech (ATI) co-op football team. During the summer of 2015 he became the IHS trainer for the boys’ and girls’ soccer, volleyball and field hockey teams.

Dunn’s athletic career began when he studied Physical Education (earning his BS Degree in 1990) and played for Springfield College as an offensive guard. While at Springfield College Mr. Dunn was in the ROTC program and enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1987. He completed his training at Fort Benning, Georgia and finished his service as an E-4 Specialist, grenadier and infantryman in 1990.

Dunn earned a MA Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration from Western Michigan University in 1996. He is a member of the NIAAA and CAAD, (National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors) and holds a professional certification in Physical Education in the State of Connecticut. He has served as physical education instructor and coach at various colleges and private and parochial schools, including at his alma mater Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and St. Rose School in Newtown.

In addition to teaching and coaching, Dunn has helped design strength and conditioning facilities, managed strengthening and conditioning programs and started up a high school weight-lifting team.  Dunn had also been the Head Sub-varsity football coach at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. And as a leader in the Connecticut Chiefs Semi-Pro Football Team in West Haven, Dunn was the Head Football Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the 2015 season. He installed his own spread offensive system and the offense was one of the leading teams in the New England Football League.
