American Family Care (AFC) one of the nation’s largest providers of urgent care and primary care is now offering COVID-19 testing at all three of their Danbury Connecticut locations: 2 Main Street, 100 Mill Plain Road, and 76 A Newtown Road.
The testing process begins by signing in and registering through AFC/TeleCare, the healthcare network’s telemedicine system at this link and making an appointment. An AFC Provider will assess patients and if the appropriate criteria are met the provider will schedule an appointment for a curbside visit and testing.
The process only takes a few minutes with results provided within 24-48 hours. “This pandemic has transformed our lives, and the nation has suffered tremendously. Our medical staff is here to care for our communities,” says Tom Kelly, independent owner of AFC urgent care centers in Connecticut. “We have worked tirelessly to bring COVID-19 testing to Connecticut families. Our providers follow a specific protocol to determine if a patient needs a test. It starts with the patient making an appointment via AFC/TeleCare.”
As the State of Connecticut works toward re-opening the economy, AFC expects to announce serology testing very soon to screen patients and help in getting them back to work. This test, in concert with the PCR nasal swab test they currently offer, will give providers enough data to clear patients for duty.
How AFC/TeleCare Works:
The goal of AFC/TeleCare is to relieve an already burdened health care system, reduce vulnerable populations to coronavirus exposure and provide medical care to patients who are quarantined at home or practicing social distancing. In a virtual visit, physicians and advanced practice providers will screen you for COVID-19 and other illnesses. They can prescribe medications even if you’re not a regular AFC patient. If you need in-person treatment, they will recommend you visit an AFC clinic in Connecticut or other local healthcare facility.
AFC/TeleCare visits can be performed on anyone old enough to consent, utilizing a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Most insurance companies will cover the cost for a copay fee. If insurance doesn’t cover, AFC offers low rates. To find the AFC closest to you, go to www.afcurgentcare.com and click on the TeleCare banner to make a virtual appointment.
