Rogers Park Slugfest Leads To 9-6 Danbury Loss To Bristol

DANBURY, CT—The Danbury Westerners took a slugfest loss to the Bristol Blues 9-6 at Rogers Park to return to .500 baseball.
 
Bristol Blues (6-19-1) players combined for four home runs while Danbury (11-11) third baseman John Anderson was a triple shy of the cycle.
 
Tyler Keith started off the scoring for Bristol with a two-RBI single to right field in the top of the second. Brennen Dorighi scored standing up from third with Anthony Galason hot on his heels to give the Blues the early lead.
 
Danbury cut the lead in half with a John Anderson RBI single to left field, scoring Sebastian Murillo from third.
 
Anthony Galason responded in the leadoff spot of the top of the fourth with a solo home run to right. It was his second home run of the season and second at Rogers Park to recover Bristol’s two-run lead with a 3-1 score. Another Blues solo home run followed in the top of the fifth from Christian Fedko to increase the lead to 4-1 Bristol.
 
In the bottom half of the fifth NECBL All-Star John Anderson slugged a two-run homer to left-centerfield to bring the score back to a one-run Bristol lead. Andrew Jenkins almost matched his Georgia Tech teammate but he flew out to the warning track just shy of another two-run home run in the inning.
 
Bristol added three more runs to their lead in the top of the sixth. Brennen Dorighi scored on an infield throwing error where Anthony Galason also advanced to second. Galason later came around to score from second on a 3-1 groundout before a Brock Murtha solo moonshot brought the Blues out to a 7-3 lead.
 
Chris Davis hit Bristol’s fourth home run in the top of the seventh to right field. It was his first home run of the season.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Danbury added three to cut the Bristol lead to two. John Anderson had an RBI ground-rule double while Cam Masterman and Andrew Jenkins had RBI groundouts. Jenkins’ groundout ended the inning.
 
After the bases were loaded by Blues in the top of the eighth, Chris Davis was nicked by a pitch to make the score 9-6. Danbury left the bases juiced with an inning-ending groundout.
 
Bristol starter Jack Moore took the win after throwing five innings of three-run baseball with eight strikeouts. Angelo Tonas took the loss for Danbury after throwing four innings and giving up six hits and three runs [two earned].
 
Danbury returns to Rogers Park on July 13 to host the Newport Gulls (16-9) at 6:30 PM. The game will be livestreamed on the NECBL Network.
