Danbury Board of Education confirms new superintendent

Kevin Walston has been named Superintendent of Danbury Public Schools effective immediately. The Danbury Board of Education approved the appointment by a vote of 10-1 at a special meeting held last night.

Walston, who will oversee the district of 12,000 students, replaces Dr. Sal Pascarella who retired in June after serving 15 years. The Board signed a three-year contract with Walston through June 2024.

Until his appointment last month as interim superintendent, Walston served as the district’s assistant superintendent for school and district development, a position he’s held for the past three years. He began his educational career as a teacher before transitioning into building leadership positions with Global Partnership Schools, including as the principal of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport.  After serving next as the district-wide director of instructional leadership in the Waterbury Public Schools, Walston took on the role of assistant superintendent of administration in South Orange and Maplewood, New Jersey, where his broad responsibilities include the oversight and evaluation of building principals.

Walston has made significant contributions to the district, including launching the “Portrait of a Graduate” initiative to ensure that all graduates of DPS are prepared for jobs, career or higher education.

Walston earned a Bachelor of Arts from City University of New York, Lehman College. He also has a master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision and a professional diploma in School District Administration from The College of New Rochelle.
