The City of Danbury Selected for $2 Million Passenger Rail Link Environmental Impact Study from the Office of Congresswoman Jahana Hayes

Today, Mayor Dean Esposito announced the City of Danbury has been selected for a 2023 Community Project Request totaling $2 million for an Environmental Impact Study for the Danbury, CT to Southeast, NY passenger rail link. The Community Project Funding Request was advocated for and selected by the Office of Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.

This funding request continues the growing support for improved and expanded passenger rail in the City of Danbury. The new rail link will connect Danbury’s downtown rail hub (Metro North) to allow direct trains utilizing the Harlem line in Southeast, NY by adding two new stations in Danbury.

Mayor Dean Esposito said, “I want to thank Congresswoman Jahana Hayes for her selection of the Danbury, CT to Southeast, NY passenger rail link environmental impact study funding request. This important next step will pave the way to improve rail transportation for the residents of Danbury. Once considered a long shot, a direct passenger rail line to New York City via the MTA Harlem line is becoming more and more of a reality because of the tremendous support seen across our city. This will help revitalize our downtown, and create an even better place for residents to live, work and raise a family.”

This project was selected as part of a competitive application process through the Office of Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.
