Danbury Concert Association Opens ‘23-‘24 Season With Pianist Cecile Licad

Back by popular demand, pianist Cecile Licad, whom The New Yorker proclaimed “the pianist’s pianist,” will open the Danbury Concert Association’s 2023-2024 season on Sunday, September 10th at 3 p.m. 

With her keyboard artistry, breathtaking range, and passionate depth, the pianist, who dazzled the DCA concert audience in 2019, will appear centerstage at the 350-seat Veronica Hagman Hall at the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on the Western Connecticut State University campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension. Refreshments and an artist meet-and-greet will follow the performance.

Ms. Licad’s musical program will include: 

Five Sonatas, Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757)

Carnival op. 9, Robert Schumann (1810-1856)

Twelve exudes op. 25, Frederic Chopin (1810-1849)

Cecile Licad began her piano studies at the age of three with her mother, Rosario Licad, in her native Philippines, and later studied with the highly regarded Rosario Picazo.She made her debut as soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Philippines at the age of 7. As one of the youngest musicians to receive the prestigious Leventritt Gold Medal, Ms. Licad won immediate international recognition, and her career was launched.  Her teacher, the great Rudolf Sorkin, at the Curtis Institute said, “Cecile Licad has an incredible instinct for all kinds of music and seems equally at home at any style.” DCA is proud to welcome the pianist extraordinaire back to its home for this return engagement.

Danbury Concert Association’s 2023-2024 season will continue with The Great Necks guitar trio, with Jacob Reuven on mandolin, Sunday, October 15th at 3 p.m.; The Essex Octet, Sunday, March 10th, 2024 at 3 p.m.;and the Neuve Trio, Sunday, May 19th, 2024 at 3 p.m.

Tickets to individual concerts may be purchased on Eventbrite a few weeks prior to performance dates, depending on availability. Ages 18 and under are admitted free, courtesy of a grant from the Danbury Cultural Commission, and advance reservations are required through Eventbrite. For updated information, call the WCSU box office at 203-837-8732 or go to wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com.
