Pella Windows in Monroe donates 100 Windows to Danbury's ReStore and Habitat for Humanity
The goodwill of Jim McGorty and the power of social networking site LinkedIn came together so that Habitat for Humanity can provide more homes for people in the greater Danbury area. Six Months ago, Jim reached out and was connected with Mary Aly, the Executive Director of Housatonic Habitat for Humanity on LinkedIn. He wanted to beocme more involved with the charity. In addition to building affordable housing, he also learned about Habitat's ReStore retail operation for home construction supplies and home goods. And six weeks after the social media introduction, Jim arranged for ReStore to receive 100 new windows from Pella, all still in boxes. The windows were originally intended for private sale, but sometimes the homeowner or designer changes their mind about style or color of the windows once they arrive on site. McGorty was voted onto the board of directors for Housatonic Habitat for Humanity at their December 2011 board meeting.
ReStore is a home building supply thrift store that recycles new, gently used and antique items donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. The donations are sold to the public at VERY LOW PRICES or used in the construction of Habitat houses. All proceeds from sales go directly towards Habitat for Humanity house construction program in the Housatonic Valley. for more information about the Habitate for Humanity ReStore, please go to http://www.housatonichabitat.org
"This is amazing for us!" says Habitat Executive Director, Mary Aly. "Not only will our customers be able to buy brand new high end windows at a tremendous discount, but we will also make revenue so we can build homes!" And gracious Pella will get to take the deduction as a charitable contribution and get a tax break.
