Mother Goose Acted Out by Famous Mime in Danbury

This will be a presentation of the classic nursery rhymes recited by Mother Goose herself! There will be music and spoken sections, and many opportunities for participation by the children: dancing, music making, acting, and face painting. Over two dozen rhymes and fourteen songs, as well as riddles and games, will be taken from the Mother Goose books and turned into a living performance. Mother Goose and her audience explore the seasons, the months of the year, the earth, and the heavens. Activities such as sewing, eating, cooking, and taking care of animals are also among the subjects covered. Designed to spark creativity and stimulate the imagination.

Lenka Pichlikova, a native of Prague, brings spoken word, musical theatre, and mime to elementary schools and classical pantomime to secondary schools and universities. She has studied with Uta Hagen and Marcel Marceau. In 2006, she was named “Best Mime” in Fairfield County. “Mother Goose” is especially suited for children from K – 6 grades.

According to her website, (www.lenkashows.com), Lenka Pichlíková is an actress (New York Actors Equity Association), director, author, and teacher with three decades of international experience in film, television, and stage productions. Educated in dramatic arts (MFA) at Charles University in her native Prague, she also studied acting with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof and mime with Marcel Marceau. Her stage credits include Equity regional roles, off-Broadway productions, over forty television roles, and twenty European and American film roles, including the principal role in the film, The Trumpet’s Song, awarded first prize at the Monte Carlo International Film Festival. Lenka’s writing credits include the full-length mimodramas, Medea and Seven Sins and a Virtue; one-person shows, including Katherine Luther; plays for children (The Emperor and the Rabbi’s Golden Secret); and schools performances (Mother Goose, Time for Mime, and others. In 2006 she was named “Best Mime” of Fairfield County, Connecticut). She teaches performing arts, dramatic literature, and cultural history at SUNY Purchase and Fairfield University.

 

Lenka was born in Prague, the Czech Republic, where she studied dramatic arts at DAMU/Charles University (MFA). After coming to the US, she studied acting with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof and mime with Marcel Marceau. Lenka teaches at SUNY Purchase and Fairfield University and has also taught at the STW School of Performing Arts and in the Youth Drama Program at SUNY Purchase. She has acted in Equity Regional productions, such as Taking Sides and The Seagull; lead roles in other regional and off-Broadway productions, such as The Master Builder, Uncle Vanya, My Sister in this House, Joan of the Stockyards, and Hamletmachine. She has been featured in over forty television roles, twelve European films, and American productions, including, most recently, featured roles in the independent films, "Apples" and "Trophy Kids." Lenka has written and performed one-person shows on the lives of Hildegard of Bingen, Queen Sofia of Bohemia, and Katherine von Bora Luther, and is also well-known for her hundreds of interactive schools performances throughout Fairfield County and the New York suburban area. Her play for children, The Emperor and the Rabbi’s Golden Secret, is set in the Renaissance Prague of Emperor Rudolf II, and includes alchemy, political intrigue, the legendary Rabbi Löwe, and the monster called Golem. She has extensive credits directing children, adolescents, and adults, and shares her talents in workshops and arts enrichment programs under the sponsorship of the Connecticut Commission for Culture and Tourism.
