Innovative Anti-Bullying Program Will Be Launched at Stadley Rough School on Thursday, March 22, 2012

Danbury Children First and Danbury Public Schools Partner to Pilot Rachel’s Challenge

DANBURY, CONN.—Rachel’s Challenge, a program created to motivate, educate, and activate students and school staff to prevent bullying, will be launched tomorrow, March 22, 2012, at Danbury’s Stadley Rough Elementary School, 25 Karen Road, Danbury.
The program will begin at 9 am with a multimedia assembly for students and school staff. At 7 pm, a presentation will be made to the school’s parents. While these programs are open only to Stadley Rough students and staff, the media is welcome to attend and take photographs.
After tomorrow’s events, the Rachel’s Challenge program will continue through after-school and summer club meetings, which will be held weekly for children.
The purpose of Rachel’s Challenge is to empower students to make permanent, positive cultural change in their schools and communities and start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion. The program is named after Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999.
Rachel’s Challenge is in alignment with the Danbury’s Public Schools’ policies and regulations on bullying behavior in the schools. The purpose is to promote positive social and emotional behavior in young children and to create a positive climate in schools.
This program is sponsored by Danbury Children First through the generosity of The Robert G. and Marguerite Derx Foundation.
Danbury Children First promotes parent and community involvement in education, offers educational programs for parents who want to help improve conditions for children, provides important information to families through several local publications, and advocates on public policy that benefits children.
