Danbury Arbor Day Events

Celebrate National Arbor Day at Tarrywile Park on April 26, and April 28.

Seeking Community Volunteer Support in Preserving the Parks Beauty and Splendor

In the spirit of community and environmental stewardship, the Tarrywile Park Authority (TPA) is thrilled to announce two special events celebrating National Arbor Day. TPA is seeking volunteers for these celebrations on Friday, April 26 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 28, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Tarrywile Park, 70 Southern Blvd, Danbury, CT 06810.

Arbor Day has long been a symbol of educating the public on the importance of trees in our environment, serving as a reminder of the beauty they bestow upon our landscapes and the critical role they play in sustaining the ecological balance. At 722 acres, Connecticut’s largest municipally-owned park, will realize overall health and biodiversity improvements from these celebrations.

Following a thorough evaluation of forestry sections at Tarrywile Park, our professional volunteers (arborists), will remove deciduous trees and conifers that have fallen victim to infestation or pose safety risks as part of Friday’s National Arbor Day event. “These arborists will ensure we keep ‘snag’ trees to support wildlife habitats, and open the tree canopy to improve light penetration and air circulation,” said Duane E. Perkins, TPA Board Member. “Eversource Energy is also providing saplings for Friday’s event and community volunteers will support invasive vines cutting on Sunday.” Susan Lauermann, Chairwoman, Friends of Tarrywile Park, Inc. (FOT) said “We’re especially excited to have the support of our community partners: Advanced Tree Removal, Bartlett Tree Service, Budget Tree & Stump Removal, City of Danbury Forestry, Eversource Energy, Ferris Mulch Products, Lewis Services and Stony Hill Landscaping. These local businesses will donate their services, expertise, and equipment resources to care for the health of Tarrywile Park’s tree cover. We look forward to these Celebrations alongside the TPA and volunteers to harness this spirit of conservation and activities centered around the beautification and biodiversity of Tarrywile Park.”

Whether you're a seasoned gardener, a nature enthusiast, or simply someone looking to give back and connect with your neighbors, together, we can make a tangible difference in the beautification of

Tarrywile Park. Our celebrations will enhance the Park for our enjoyment, the wildlife that calls it home, and the future generations who will inherit this cherished green space.
