Mayor Alves Awards $170,000 in Opioid Settlement Monies to Local Agencies

Today, Mayor Roberto Alves announced that he awarded twelve local agencies a total of $170,000 in funds from the opioid legal settlements. These are the first awards made by the City of Danbury from the opioid settlement money. To date, the City of Danbury has received approximately $308,000 from these settlements.

In 2024, Mayor Alves formed an internal committee, composed of leadership from the Mayor’s Office, the Health & Human Services Department, and the Finance Department, to identify local agencies that provide substance abuse programs, support services, treatment and recovery services, and harm reduction resources to the Danbury community.

“This money belongs to the community,” said Mayor Alves. “When I took office, I questioned whether the City should create programs to utilize this funding, but quickly recognized the great, collaborative work in treatment and prevention that is already occurring throughout the City. The organizations selected in this round of funding are doing incredible work in substance abuse prevention and providing wrap-around services, as well as offering opportunities to folks in treatment and recovery. We’re proud to put this money exactly where it was intended to go.”
