WestConn to present ‘A JOURNEY’ Musical One-Woman Show
DANBURY, Connecticut — Western Connecticut State University will present “A JOURNEY” Musical One-Woman Show from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The event is free and the public is invited.
Award-winning playwright and performer Kimberly Wilson will bring to life seven historical women, seven pivotal generations, and will present their stories through song, movement and dialogue to demonstrate how ultimately their faith, hope and calling helped shape the America we know today.
Joyful celebrations and painful reflections are rendered artistically to tell a story of persistence and courage and how womanhood, not always intricately woven into the tapestry of American history, is the thread that holds together the fabric of American life. Included in this journey are reflections from an African Queen, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, and more.
After the performance, the audience is invited to remain for a talk-back that extends the value of this theatrical experience. People are welcome to share their feedback and share their stories, too.
According to Wilson, “As we celebrate these historical women’s stories and their journeys, let us also celebrate our own journeys. We must tell our stories and be avid, respectful listeners to the stories of others. We must live, love and treasure each other, for this is OUR JOURNEY.”
WestConn’s Director of Inclusion and Belonging Joshua Sumrell added, “A Journey One Woman Show is a must-see event because Kimberly Wilson’s energy, enthusiasm and authenticity is something that will make it a special event. She is captivating and truly captures the moments through our history and conveys the important elements of storytelling. I think when people leave the event, they will be reflecting on it for a long time, as it will be impactful. This community event will bring us together and have us reflect on our own personal journeys through life.”
This event was made possible by the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion; Institute for Holistic Health Studies; International Services; Student Affairs; Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences; WCSU Library Services; Housing & Residential Life; and Black Student Union.
