The Danbury Museum & Historical Society Authority is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Danbury's Third Century: From Urban Status to Tricentennial, produced by Western Connecticut State University and written by Dr. Herbert Janick, Emeritus Professor at WCSU and William Devlin, a graduate of WCSU and author of We Crowned Them All: An Illustrated History of Danbury.
The book covers our city's history from 1889, when the state legislature made Danbury a full-fledged city, to the celebration of its 300th birthday year in 1984-85. The volume traces the decline of Danbury as a center of hat manufacturing that was followed, not by devastation, but by an economic and cultural transformation.
"We are grateful to both Dr. Janick and Bill Devlin, two noted Danbury historians, for their contribution in writing this long-awaited and most recent history of our city," stated Brigid Guertin, Executive Director of the Danbury Museum & Historical Society. "We're thrilled to have assisted them by providing a wealth of historic Danbury images from our photo archives."
All proceeds from the sale of the book, printed in both hardcover and softcover editions, will be donated to The Friends of the Danbury Museum.
The FDMHSA is a 501(c) 3, dedicated to raising funds to help the Danbury Museum & Historical Society fulfill its commitment to creating outstanding programs, events and exhibitions in support of local history and education.
The museum will host an official book release event by welcoming Dr. Herb Janick and William Devlin for a chat and signing on Thursday, April 25th from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM. This event is free & open to the public.
