Ridgefield Academy families & faculty support The Women's Center, participate in SafeWalk

RA families and faculty participate in Women's Center of Greater Danbury 4K Safewalk

Service Learning is an integral part of the curriculum at Ridgefield Academy. Through events and activities and programs in advisory, RA students are committed to make a difference in the lives of others in need on a community and a global level.  Issues ranging from hunger, poverty, inequity, and the environment are just a few of the issues students have addressed by collecting and donating food and warm coats to the homeless, visiting food pantries to explore the issue of local and global hunger, delivering crafts to the elderly at the holidays, and responding to natural disasters.

RA believes Service Learning builds character development.  It teaches students to be thankful for the lives they have and to empathize with others to develop a sense of civic responsibility.  This results in students being able to see different perspectives.  Additionally, they also develop confidence and a sense of empowerment as they discover they can have a lasting impact on others.

Last Sunday, September 30, RA families and faculty ventured out to the Danbury Fair Mall for the annual Women's Center of Greater Danbury 4K Safewalk. Women's Center is a non-profit organization with a mission to end violence against women, men, and children, to foster equality and empowerment for all. It serves the needs of individuals and families in the Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield communities. It proved to be a fun and successful day as RA was able to raise over $1000 for this wonderful cause!

Established in 1975, Ridgefield Academy is a Preschool – Grade 8 independent day school located in Ridgefield, Conn. serving students from Fairfield and Westchester counties.  Ridgefield Academy is located at 223 West Mountain Road in Ridgefield, Conn. 203.894.1800. www.ridgefieldacademy.org.
