United Way of Western Connecticut to Honor Pitney Bowes at Annual Heart of Gold Event

At its annual Heart of Gold Award Dinner, United Way of Western Connecticut will honor Pitney Bowes and its President and Chief Executive Officer, Marc B. Lautenbach, for demonstrating exceptional citizenship, volunteerism and philanthropy. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at The Loading Dock (375 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

As part of this celebration of service to the community, United Way will also award the 2018 Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship to two high school seniors at the event.

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes, Marc Lautenbach sets the tone for a corporation that holds volunteerism as a core value. Pitney Bowes’ leadership in employee volunteerism is demonstrated in a myriad of ways throughout the year. Whether it’s participating in United Way’s annual Day of Action, helping to collect books for children through the Business to Books program, or putting together school supplies and backpacks for low-income students, Pitney Bowes employees are at the forefront of United Way activities.

Together with their employees, Pitney Bowes is dedicated to helping improve the well-being of their communities. They focus their philanthropy on literacy and education, supporting programs that encourage reading, address the opportunity gap, prepare people for successful employment, and enhance the capability of the future workforce.

Marc B. Lautenbach is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors since December 3, 2012. Before joining Pitney Bowes, he spent 27 years in senior leadership roles at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), most recently serving as Managing Partner, North America, IBM Global Business Services.

After joining Pitney Bowes, Marc helped build the company’s long-term commitment to corporate citizenship through many diverse community involvement efforts. This includes the global expansion of team volunteerism through Dedication to Education, the company’s signature volunteer program. This effort is conducted in partnership with United Ways / Volunteer Centers worldwide and is funded by grants from the Pitney Bowes Foundation. Launched in 2014, Dedication to Education encourages employees to participate in high-impact team volunteer projects supporting education in their local communities. Reaching more employees and communities each year, this initiative has grown to 47 Pitney Bowes sites in nine countries, and in 2018, more than 94 Team volunteer projects were conducted.

Marc is also an Independent Director at Campbell Soup Company since June 11, 2014, a member of Catalyst, Inc., and a member of the Board of Trustees at Denison University.

“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to recognize Marc and everyone at Pitney Bowes,” said Kimberly Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “Pitney Bowes exemplifies a corporation that cares about the community. Its focus on education has benefitted innumerable children in our region, and around the world.”

The Heart of Gold Award was established in 1995 to honor business leaders who distinguish themselves through philanthropy and build volunteerism into their strategic business plans. United Way of Western Connecticut celebrates the importance of business leadership through this symbiotic engagement to build healthy communities.

At the event, UWWC will award two $5,000 Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarships to two high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism throughout their high school career. This year’s selection process is currently underway and awardees will be announced by mid-April.
