Run for the Roses at Ridgefield Library Gala Derby Hat-Making Class April 2

The 2019 Great Expectations Gala fundraiser for the Ridgefield Library is off to the races – the Kentucky Derby, that is. The Derby-themed Gala will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 6-11 p.m. at the library.

Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails - including traditional mint juleps - while watching the 145th Run for the Roses on the big screen in the main level’s Bossidy Commons. The cocktail hour will also feature a hat contest and photo booth. The sit-down dinner on the upper level will be catered by Sarah Bouissou Catering. After dinner, the party continues in Bossidy Commons, which will be transformed into a lively piano bar led by a professional entertainer from New York, NY Dueling Pianos.

Attendees are gently encouraged to dress for the Derby. That can mean anything from large, decorated hats or small, jaunty fascinators and simple dresses (keeping the focus on the hat) for the ladies. For the men: bow ties and hats (think fedora or a bowler).

For anyone planning to attend the Gala, the Ridgefield Library is offering hat-making classes on April 2 and April 23from 1- 4 p.m.  “The library will be providing flowers, ribbons, bows and all of the materials needed to make a fascinator, or you can bring a hat of your own to decorate,” said Laureen Bubniak, Director of Development. Register on the Library’s Events page to reserve a spot.

This year’s Great Expectations Gala will honor Dewey and Paul McNamara for their contributions to the library, the community and beyond. Tickets are $250, and $130 of that is tax deductible. For reservations contact Ms. Bubniak, lmbubniak@ridgefieldlibrary.org.
