Danbury War Memorial Donation To Honor Flight New England

The Danbury War Memorial will be donating $400 to Honor Flight New England from the Veterans Walkway of Honor final brick sale profits.

Through generous donations, Honor Flight New England transports our heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials at no cost to the veteran. Top priority is currently given to the WWII Veterans, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Beginning in the Spring of 2016, Honor Flight New England also began transporting Korean War Veterans.

The highlights of the trip are visits to the WWII Memorial and the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Stops are also made at other memorials commemorating specific wars and military branches.

Honor Flight New England averages five or six trips a year in the spring and fall months. Flights are booked at Logan Airport in Boston and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, N.H. Each veteran is accompanied by a guardian, usually a family member other than a spouse. The travel cost for the guardian is $450.

Project Organizer Lee Teicholz stated, "I am honored to be able to make a donation to such a worthy cause. With 413 WWII veterans passing away each day, it's sadly only a matter of time before this organization transports it's last WWII veteran."

Teicholz stated that he will be attending the 75th anniversary ceremony of the Normandy invasion in France on June 6th.
