Woman’s Club of Danbury/New Fairfield Donate Hundreds of Shoes to Soles4Souls

The General Federation of Women’s Club’s challenged women’s clubs in the United States to donate 1,000 pairs of shoes to people in developing countries.

As part of the GFWC 2018-2020 Seven Grand Initiatives, the Woman’s Club of Danbury/New Fairfield took the challenge and donated over 400 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls. Why? Because it makes a difference for children and adults like Luc and his family. Luc is an 11-year old who lives in the mountains in Guatemala. With rough terrain, Lucas could barely leave his village or attend school because he had no shoes.

Living on $1.90/day, Luc was destined to remain in extreme poverty. The opportunity was so great, Luc walked in rough terrain for 90 minutes to get new shoes from Sole4Souls. The real opportunity wasn’t just the shoes. It was returning to school where Luc could be with his friends, learn and grow. And, it doesn’t stop there.

Families start micro-enterprise businesses by providing shoes to others, allowing families to earn sufficient income to feed their families, provide shelter and education.
