Drive-By Community Food Drive to Benefit the Danbury Food Collaborative August 7 & 8

United Way of Western Connecticut Day of Action 2020 Drive-By Community Food Drive to Benefit the Danbury Food Collaborative

Fri., August 7, 2 - 6 pm &  Sat., August 8, 9 am - 12 noon
Danbury Fair Mall, 7 Backus Avenue, Danbury, CT

Food Pantries in Greater Danbury desperately need our help. 2-1-1 received 5 times as many calls for food assistance in Fairfeld County between March and June of 2020 than it did during the same time last year. Feeding America predicts that food insecurity could increase in Connecticut by 44%, from 11% of the state’s population to 16%, as a result of unemployment and economic dislocation due to the pandemic.

CONTACT-FREE DONATION PROCESS. Donations will be collected via a drive through in the mall parking lot located off the main entrance, facing Backus Avenue (closest to L.L. Bean). Look for the tent. Volunteers will remove your donations from your vehicle trunk. No need to get out of your vehicle.

DID YOU KNOW?  Donations to food pantries from the grocery store industry were down 70% during the pandemic, because grocery store shelves were being cleared out by consumers. Meanwhile, demand on food pantries was greater than ever, because of the dramatic rise in unemployment. Help us restock the pantries in Greater Danbury! Let’s reduce food insecurity in our community!

United Way of Western CT fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Western Connecticut, with a focus on hard-working, struggling households that we call ALICE®  (Asset Limited, Income, Constrained, Employed).

At the heart of United Way’s strength are our dedicated volunteers--the hand raisers who step up to provide help and hope to those in our community who are struggling.

Through our past Day of Action events, we have mobilize volunteers in a variety of large-scale projects to benefit ALICE in greater Danbury, Southern Litchfield County and Stamford.Corporate volunteer groups will engage in a STEM Street Fair with custom activities for local elementary and middle school children, a mobile children’s library book distribution, and improvement projects at local nonprofits.
