United Way of Western Connecticut Launches Back to School Drive in Danbury and Greater New Milford

Prepares Hundreds of Local Students for the Upcoming School Year

United Way of Western Connecticut is hosting its annual Back-to-School Program in Danbury and Greater New Milford. For more than 30 years, the organization has actively sought to provide students with the school supplies they need to succeed.

“One of our core missions at United Way of Western Connecticut is accessible, affordable, and quality education for all children,” said Isabel Almeida, President of United Way of Western Connecticut. “Our Back-to-School Program takes away some of the stress that a new school year brings for ALICE families by providing students with the tools they need to begin the school year with confidence.”

United Way of Western Connecticut serves a population referred to as ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). These households make up 40% of the population in United Way of Western Connecticut’s 15-town footprint of Stamford, Northern Fairfield County, and Southern Litchfield County. This year, the organization will provide supplies to 500 ALICE students through two supply drives — one in Danbury in partnership with Danbury Fair, and one in New Milford. Students are identified through the public school system and in partnership with local social service agencies and receive the core supplies needed for the upcoming school year like backpacks, crayons, pencils, glue, scissors, and more.

United Way of Western Connecticut is currently accepting monetary and supply donations until August 12, 2022.To learn more about the Back-to-School Program and donate, click here
