Tell us about an organization in your town that makes you feel good
I have a big soft spot for Jericho Partnership does. The work of this nonprofit is multi-faceted and always focused on the needs of our children and families. They feed the minds and bodies and spirits of so many in our community by serving at-risk youth, and by extension their families. Their approach is “360-degree” so helping and supporting the whole person.
Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?
At Mothership, I employ a staff of mostly teenagers and young adults. I love hearing their take on things. They are hilarious but more importantly, they care deeply about social justice and are fierce defenders of race and gender equality. These young adults are bright and amazing creatures and they inspire me every day.
What do you love about your community?
I grew up in a very racially homogeneous place and now live in a city, rich in diversity. We come from all corners of the earth to carve out a life together. I love what Danbury High School represents: a place where the speakers of over 50 languages and associated dialects are tossed together and are sorted out by human compatibility and connection and not by race. That, I love.
