WCSU Offers Arts Technology Workshops for High School Students

WCSU offers Arts Technology Workshops for high school students

Western Connecticut State University offers high school students in grades 9-12 a chance to participate in its Summer Arts Technology Workshops on Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9. Registration for two workshops, Stop Motion and Theatre Stage & Sound Technology, is still open at wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com. All workshops take place in WCSU’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, located at 43 Lake Ave. Extension, Danbury.

The Summer 2023 Arts Technology Workshops are open to all rising high school freshmen through seniors who are interested in arts technology. There is a registration fee of $35 for each workshop. The two-day educational experiences offer students the opportunity to learn cutting edge arts technology that will expose them to new means of creation, and open doors to pathways in the arts. The Arts Workshops begin at an introductory level and equip students with a unique and advanced skillset in their area. In addition to learning skills in the various forms of arts technology, students will also get a real look at what it’s like to be a college student in WCSU’s School of Visual and Performing Arts.

During the Stop Motion Workshop, students will be introduced to stop-motion animation through historical reviews, scene photography and building of their own zoetrope, one of the earliest forms of stop-motion animation. Using available software, the zoetrope photos will be compiled into a final movie form.

In the Theatre Stage & Sound Technology Workshop, students will explore scenic and sound design for theatrical productions using industry standard software including Vectorworks, Sketch Up and Qlab. Students will create a visual and aural landscape from scratch and explore how scenery and sound work together to create the environment of a theatre production.

WCSU will provide all technology needed. Students only need to bring their smartphone and charger. Lunch will be provided on both days of the workshops. Registration ends soon; there are a limited number of spots available for each workshop. (Music Production Workshop is sold out).
