In this episode of "This Week in the City", Mayor Dean Esposito is joined by Director of Finance Dan Garrick to explain the annual city budget process to residents.

A message from Mayor Dean Esposito:

As we start this year’s budget cycle, I want to thank all City employees for their dedication and incredible work this past year. Together, we have achieved significant milestones that will continue to improve life for generations of Danburians now and in the future.

The financial challenges related to inflation, supply chain delays, rising rent and mortgages, childcare needs and more, have been overwhelming. Danbury’s taxpayers, both residential and commercial, are struggling just to pay their heating and grocery bills. The City has used ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to “respond, restore, and prepare” in a number of ways that will continue to help us recover from the global pandemic and build a more resilient city government for years to come. The broad purpose of ARPA funds is to enhance the safety and well-being for the City of Danbury.

There will be several priorities in this upcoming budget including Public Safety, Public Health, Education, and Infrastructure. The FY2023-2024 Budget must not ignore the struggles of the Danbury Taxpayer! In my first budget last year, we made strategic and bold investments to address the long-term needs of the City, and we will continue to create and support new initiatives to enhance Danbury’s position as a premier city to work, live, and raise a family.

Together, we have done a GREAT job rising to the occasion, and we have a real opportunity to continue to be the best City in the State of Connecticut by taking a holistic approach to our budget and budget priorities.
