Reminder: Bond Referendum Tuesday, April 25, Danbury Water System Upgrades and Improvements

Mayor Dean Esposito and the City of Danbury would like to encourage all voters to participate in the Danbury Water System Upgrades and Improvements Bond Referendum on Tuesday, April 25th from 6am to 8pm. All voters will vote at their regular municipal and state voting
locations.

The question before the City is to approve or deny:

An ordinance appropriating $115,000,000 for the planning, study, design, engineering and construction of improvements, upgrades, and rehabilitation of existing water system assets, facilities and infrastructure.

 “I’m encouraging all voters in Danbury to participate in the upcoming Danbury Water System Upgrades and Improvements Bond Referendum on Tuesday, April 25th from 6am to 8pm. This bond referendum will allow for the upgrade of existing water system assets, facilities, and infrastructure to continue complying with established regulatory drinking water standards, as well as new drinking water standards,” said Mayor Dean Esposito

A summary of improvements, upgrades and rehabilitation includes the Lake Kenosia Well Field, the West Lake and Margerie Water Treatment Plants, the raw water supply system, the treated water distribution system and extension of such and water storage tank rehabilitation and or replacement, and compliance with EPA’s 2021 Lead and Copper Rule, as well as testing, designing, and installation of treatment systems
for Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in groundwater and studying treatment of surface water supply sources to comply with (PFAS) standards.

 The last major water treatment plant upgrades were performed at the West Lake Water Treatment Plant in 1982, 40 years ago, and the Margerie WTP in 1998, almost 25 years ago.
