Media Arts Film Festival May 3 at WCSU

WCSU to host Media Arts Film Festival black-tie event

Western Connecticut State University's Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Student Media Club will host the Third Annual Media Arts Film Festival at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, in the Student Center Theater on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.

Walk the red carpet and enjoy refreshments at this black-tie event that will feature and present awards for the best student short videos, films and digital interactive media. Award categories include fiction, nonfiction, best sound, technical excellence, most creative, best of show and people's choice.

Festival judges are Associate Professor of Communication/Media Arts Dr. JC Barone; Assistant Professor of Digital & Interactive Media Arts Paul Echevarria; Department of Art Chairperson Cathy Vanaria; Assistant Professor of Art Jack Tom; Professor of Computer Science Dr. Bill Joel; Madisyn Mazik, president of the Broadcast Education Association Student Media Club; and Nick Hossan, Media Arts alumnus ('16).

Louisa Burns-Bisogno, award-winning writer for stage, screen and the web, will kick off the evening with a sizzle reel for her upcoming web series based on actual events, "The Night John Lennon Died ... So Did John Doe." Bisogno is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Writing, Linguistics and the Creative Process.

This program is for a mature audience and some material contains strong language and content that may be unsuitable for children. The event is free and open to the public.
