American University Women and Danbury Library to offer Film and Discussion for Women's History Month

The Danbury NAACP, American Association of University Women, and the Danbury Library will host a Women's History Month film and discussion on Sunday, March 25th from 1:30-4:30pm at the Danbury Library.  The film, based on the book "Hidden Figures," tells the story of three, female, African-American mathematicians portrayed by Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, and Taraji P. Henson, who worked for NASA during the 60's and were integral in the success of the USA space programs.  Working in the segregated South, the women overcame challenging obstacles to make their outstanding contributions.

Audience participation will follow the movie centered around the barriers confronted by women of color then and now.  The discussion will also focus on encouraging young women of color to pursue careers in science and math.

Light refreshments will be served.  The program is free of charge.  Registration is encouraged at danburylibrary.org or call 203-797-4505, ext. 7730.  For more program information, contact Glenda Armstrong at 203-668-3444.   The Danbury Library is located at 170 Main Street, Danbury, CT.
