The Danbury Library will proudly host a special naturalization ceremony on Wednesday, April 11th at 12 noon. Over the last year, the Danbury Library has been a participant in the Peer Library Citizenship Coalition, an initiative started through the support of the federal Citizenship Education and Integration grant from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to the Hartford Library. The purpose of the grant was to develop resources for immigrants and new citizens in the library and reinforce the importance of libraries in Connecticut communities.
Danbury’s ceremony is one of six naturalization ceremonies to be hosted at public libraries in Connecticut during National Library Week, April 8-14. Twenty candidates from Danbury and the surrounding area will take the Oath of Allegiance and become U.S. citizens.
The Danbury Library currently offers a number of resources for immigrants, including English classes, language learning databases, internet access, and citizenship classes.
Following the ceremony, attendees and their families and friends will enjoy light refreshments and have the opportunity to take a commemorative photo. Voter registration and U.S. Passport applications will also be accepted.
USCIS invites new citizens and their families and friends to share their experiences from the ceremonies through Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #newUScitizen and #DanburyWelcomesYou
