Danbury Library to offer seminars on Fake News

The Danbury Library will present a 2-part seminar entitled, “The Keys to Combatting Fake News: A Seminar on Building Media Literacy” on two consecutive Mondays, July 23 and July 30 from 5:30 – 6:30pm.

Because anyone with a smartphone and Wi-Fi connection can create and perpetuate content, these interactive seminars will provide instruction and practice in media literacy strategies by helping the public develop the habit of fact-checking, understanding the impact of filter bubbles, as well as learning the tools they can use to be productive participants in online and in-person discourse.

The program will be conducted by Jacquelyn Whiting, a Google Certified Innovator focused on media literacy and an educator with 25 years’ experience in public high schools in Connecticut. She is certified in both social studies and library media.

The program is free of charge.  Teens, their parents and other interested adults are welcome to attend.  Registration is required online at danburylibrary.org, click on “View Calendar” or call 203.797.4505, x 7726.

The Danbury Library is located at 170 Main Street in Danbury, CT.   For more information contact Aurelio Muraca, Technology Program Coordinator at amuraca@danburylibrary.org or call 203-797-4505, x 7726.
