Mind, Body, Spirit: What is It? Workshop at Danbury Library

3-Part Workshop on Mind, Body, Spirit at The Danbury Public Library

Have you heard the expression "mind, body, spirit" and wondered what does it mean? Is there a body of research to back-up this concept?

Are there techniques for helping us to unify our "mind, body and spirit?" According to prolific author, Thich Nhat Hanh, there are.  Does "unifying" our "mind, body and spirit" reduce stress? Are there other benefits?

According to Thich Nhat Hanh, "peace is all around us--in the world and in nature--and within us--in our bodies and in our spirits. Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is a matter of practice."

As a well-received teacher of mindfulness, Ms. Jodi L. Weisz, MLIS has been teaching workhops on different styles of mindfulness since her undergraduate days at the University of California at Berkeley where she studied meditation under the direction of Eknath Easwaran. Ms. Weisz also lived as an apprentice at the San Francisco Zen Center.

Ms. Weisz's teaching style has been described by her students as "authentic and approachable, filled with stories that are motivational and uplifting."

In this three-week workshop, students will be introduced to the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh of whom Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote: " I do not personally know of anyone more worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize than this gentle Buddhist monk...His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a momentum to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity."

"I love teaching Thich Nhat Hanh's tips to students. His ideas are easy to understand and apply; they bring peace to students' lives. I have seen, over and over again, how this author positively impacts readers. Many of his teachings seem simple. The beauty of Hanh is his ability to clearly illustrate "do-able" actions. I never stop finding nuggets of wisdom in his writings."

Reflecting on her upcoming workshop to take place over three consecutive Mondays in August (the 13th, 20th & 27th), at 5:30 PM, Ms. Weisz concludes, "Integrating one's mind, body and spirit increases energy, fortitude and growth. Thich Nhat Hanh's books have so much clarity, encouragement and literary beauty that readers' personal growth is inevitable. Great teachers speak a shared language of simplicity and sublimity. Hanh is a great teacher."
