Charles Monagan, long-time editor of Connecticut Magazine, to present at Danbury Library

The Danbury Library will host an entertaining and educational presentation by author and former editor of Connecticut Magazine, Charles Monagan, on Saturday, September 29th from 3-4pm.  Monagan, a seasoned writer and lecturer of Connecticut history, will talk about his latest book, "Connecticut Icons: Classic Symbols of the Nutmeg State".  In 2000, he began writing a monthly "Connecticut Icons" page in the magazine, and in 2006, the collection was published by Globe Pequot and sold out three printings.  In 2017, Connecticut Icons was reissued, with updates and additional icons.

As Monagan reveals, "The icons range from hot lobster rolls to Yale Bowl, from stone walls to steamed cheeseburgers, and from Sleeping Giant to Top-Sider deck shoes. This presentation will be filled with lots of surprising and revealing information about Connecticut places and things you thought you already knew about."

His work has appeared in many magazines and newspapers, and from 1989 to 2013 he was the editor of Connecticut Magazine.  In 1997, he won the Gold Medal for Reporting from the national City and Regional Magazine Association.  In 2012, he received the Connecticut Press Club's Mark Twain Award for Distinguished Journalism, a lifetime award.  He is the author of 10 books, including The Neurotic's Handbook, The Reluctant Naturalist.
