Bear sightings have become a more common occurrence in the news. What are these creatures really like? Felicia Ortner, Connecticut Master Wildlife Conservationist will help us understand them through her presentation, “The Bear Reality,” at the Danbury Library on Wednesday, October 3 from 5:30-6:30pm.
Ortner has been a bear enthusiast for over 30 years. Through her program, she hopes to dispel some of the myths associated with Black Bears and encourage the audience to be “Bear Aware”.
She has been studying bears for over 30 years. In the mid-1990's, she turned her passion for learning about bears into a passion for teaching about them. With increased sightings and activity in populated areas, bears are becoming more of a concern with area residents. Through her educational programs Ortner hopes “…through outreach and education that these magnificent creatures will become better understood, we will learn to respect them instead of fear them and a strategy of coexistence with humans and bears is in the future.”
