Danbury Concert Association Heralds Spring with Bassoon Walden Chamber Players

Danbury Concert Association Heralds Spring with Bassoon Walden Chamber Players on March 24

“I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society,” wrote celebrated naturalist, Henry David Thoreau. If the author of Walden had added another chair to his home, he may have well done so to include music. "Listen to music religiously," he once said, "as if it were the last strain you might hear."

In response,  the Danbury Concert Association will continue its  2018/2019 season on Sunday, March 24th at 3:00pm with four chairs and the music of the exceptional chamber artists that comprise the  Walden Chamber Players. Known for their versatility and eclectic programming, which includes works from Bach to Schoenberg, the Boston-based group will perform with strings and bassoon at Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in southwest Connecticut’s premier performing arts facility, the state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on Western Connecticut State University's Westside Campus in Danbury, CT (43 Lake Avenue Extension).

Performing selections from an intriguing string-bassoon repertoire, will be violinist Curt Macomber, cellist Ashima Scripp, and violist Christof Huebner, joined by bassoonist Gina Cuffari. Founded in 1997,  Walden Chamber Players has garnered a reputation for being one of the most exciting  chamber groups performing today. Critics have hailed its performances and Chamber Music America raves: “A season spent with the Walden Chamber Players is a time for discovery." Walden Chamber Players presents a new concept of a classical concert both in content and presentation. Drawing from a rich palette of sources and styles, it mixes and matches the works of both classical and contemporary composers with an eye to new understandings and discoveries.
