Danbury Block Party features Billy Joel’s band, food, drink and fun!

Billy Joel’s former back-up band, The Lords of 52nd Street, will headline the Danbury Block Party on Saturday, Sept. 7, along with food, drink and more entertainment in the annual celebration on the CityCenter Green.

Formerly called Taste of Danbury, the Block Party will present a more focused day of excitement for guests from noon to 10 p.m., featuring vendors and games, lunch and dinner from local restaurants and food trucks, and beer and wine.

The Block Party, hosted and organized by CityCenter Danbury, is designed to provide entertainment, but also remind residents and visitors that downtown Danbury offers a variety of interesting venues for shopping and eating.

“We had an opportunity to fill a single day with all kinds of music and activities to bring people downtown,” said Alicia Ghio, chair of the CityCenter Board of Directors. “The Lords of 52nd Street will attract a lot of fans, but we hope they also enjoy the other aspects of the Block Party and our vibrant downtown. It will be a true celebration of the Danbury community.”

The Lords of 52nd Street performed with Joel on his first hit album, “Turnstiles,” and continued to record and tour with him in the world’s largest music venues for more than a decade. They disbanded but came back together in 2016 and have toured consistently ever since, bringing the biggest Joel songs and the bands’ unique sound to both old and new fans.

Additional bands playing at the Block Party include Justin Chan and The Vices, The Red Hots, Red Ball Express, Top Dead Center and Vélez.

Demonstrating local support for the Block Party, Leahy's Fuels is the title sponsor. Major sponsors are Roger Electric, 1 Kennedy Flats, Webster Bank, Wells Fargo and the City of Danbury.

Parking will be available in Bardo Garage on Main Street at $1.25 an hour and in Patriot Garage next to the Green for a flat rate of $4.

The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 8.
