The Meetinghouse Presents
Songs of Life, Love, and Light
An Afternoon of Music with Sara Vokes on Sunday, June 26--2pm
Everybody loves a good story. For countless millennia, human beings have been sharing stories to amuse, educate, and evoke sometimes powerful emotions. In addition to the spoken word, human stories can now be told in writing, in still and moving pictures, and in music.
Sara Vokes as singer/songwriter, elicits a wide range of authentic emotions—some painful and some uplifting. She draws her original stories from many influences--her youth in western and central New York among a very large extended family, her marriage, her travels around America, her faith, and her journey in finding serenity and joy despite sometimes painful past experiences. She seeks in her music to strike familiar chords and bring forth a strong sense of sharing in the human and spiritual condition. As such, she is willing to ‘lay her heart out’ and be vulnerable to her audience.
Sara currently serves as the Music Director of the Meetinghouse in Ridgebury, where she plays and sings at the weekly services of the Ridgebury Congregational Church. She is thrilled to be a part of the current initiatives at the Meetinghouse and her music is a key component of the arts element of the current Meetinghouse priorities. She is also an active teacher of music—voice and piano—as well as elocution and presentation skills. She started out in musical theatre then changed to opera at Ithaca College and earned her master’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Illinois. She characterizes her musical style as a blend of classical and contemporary/folk, with a hint of Jazz in the mix.
This concert is also being streamed on Zoom.
The Meetinghouse is located at 605 Ridgebury Road in Ridgefield.
