CityCenter Danbury Farmers’ Market Provides Fresh Food To ALL Thanks to Fairfield County’s Community Foundation

For the 10th Year Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Grant to CityCenter Danbury Farmers’ Market Supports Fresh Food for All

A $32,000 grant from the Fairfield County's Community Foundation (FCCF) will enable the CityCenter Danbury Farmers’ Market to make fresh produce accessible to people who might otherwise not have access to healthy food options.

Fairfield County's Community Foundation awarded the grant to support the Danbury Farmers’ Market Community Collaborative’s (DFMCC) Better Food for Better Health program. The grant provides veterans, seniors, limited- income seniors, women, children and SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) recipients with market cash incentives for produce. Local farmers also benefit by selling more produce. In addition to the incentives, a robust nutrition education program is offered at the market and in the community, to encourage and assist people in making healthy food choices, both at the market and in their daily lives.

Peggy Zamore, nutritionist and coordinator of the market programs, which is managed by CityCenter Danbury, said, “Over the past ten years, the Community Foundation has now awarded the Danbury Farmers’ Market Community Collaborative over $232,000 in grant money for our work. That is a tremendous level of funding and much appreciated by the collaborative and the community. Without Fairfield County's Community Foundation continued significant support, our programs would simply not be possible.”

"Fairfield County's Community Foundation is proud to support CityCenter Danbury’s Farmers’ Market once again. This support specifically comes from a FCCF donor-advised fund holder, who cares deeply about fresh food access and working farmers in our state. We are thrilled to help keep this gem of an initiative going strong in downtown Danbury," remarked Karen R. Brown, the Community Foundation's Vice President of Innovation and Strategic Learning.

The Danbury Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday through Oct. 19th at the CityCenter Green. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call CityCenter Danbury at (203) 792 1711 or visitwww.danburyfarmersmarket.org.
