Danbury Mayor to Issue Challenge to John Oliver in Video Message Thursday!

Mayor Mark Boughton titled today’s live show, “Live at 5 without John Oliver”

Surprisingly, Boughton didn’t begin his show by addressing Oliver’s recent proposal (come on, you know...naming the City sewer plant John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant).

Instead, he got right down to the most important (potentially life-saving) business: COVID-19 case data and upcoming free testing opportunities.

Danbury’s infection rate is now 5-7% infection. Boughton says the rate needs to drop to 1% or below before schools can reopen. Today, the State reported 7 new cases. Yesterday, Boughton says there were 17 new cases.

Take this, John Oliver!

The one, the only, Taylor O’Brien said that there were several Live at 5 without John Oliver viewers from out of state that watched John Oliver’s HBO show on Sunday and wanted to tune in to see if Boughton would

Oliver promised 55K to three charities if John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant came to the Hat City (in name, the Sewer Plant is already there).

“I have to do something to get these dollars,” said Boughton. Addressing Oliver directly, Boughton said, “We are reviewing your request. We are working hard on it. We will have a response video shortly.”

Boughton concluded his message to Oliver by saying,  “I’m coming for you. I’m coming so hard you'll never know what happened. And I’ll take you out with our video on Thursday and I will issue a challenge to you and you will have to meet that challenge or it’s on like Donkey Kong.”
