Danbury's TOD Study Wins 2020 Urbanism Award

The New England Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism awarded the City of Danbury’s Downtown Danbury Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Study the 2020 Urbanism Award in the neighborhood/district/corridor category. In its notification of the award, the CNU noted the record number of applications this year in this category with Danbury's application scoring the highest.

The TOD study was completed in January of 2019 and established recommendations for downtown Danbury. The initiatives derived from the study are aimed to supplement the strong foundation of coordinated public and private programs and activities that already exist in downtown Danbury. It was guided by the goal of creating a more effective use of transit service and unlocking development opportunities within the downtown corridor.

“On behalf of the City of Danbury, our consultant team led by Goody Clancy, the TOD Study task force members, and the residents of Danbury, I am honored that our 2019 Downtown Danbury TOD Study was selected to receive this award. In issuing this award to Danbury for this Study and the continued implementation of its recommendations, CNU New England has acknowledged that by focusing on downtown land use, transportation, public spaces, and our unique cultural and diverse community, Danbury has created and will continue to create a place where people want to live, work, and play,” says Sharon Calitro, Planning Director. “Through proper planning, a robust public engagement process, and developing and implementing workable strategies, Danbury continues to promote compact, walkable, and transit-oriented development and great public spaces in its historic downtown.”
