Arts banner in Danbury shows the region unified and hopeful

Municipal and community leaders joined to support local arts with the unveiling of a new map that pictures the region as a quilt sewn together with words of hope and strength.

The new “Keep Arts Alive” banner was commissioned by the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, with support from the Connecticut Institute For Communities, and was unfurled on Nov. 6 on the front of the CIFC building on Main Street in Danbury.

The banner shows the 10 towns represented by the Cultural Alliance, each bordered by words suggested by those municipalities’ mayors and first selectmen, who were asked to supply language that demonstrates how community comes together, especially during difficult times.

“The Cultural Alliance sought to use words by town leaders to create a banner reflecting unity, and in no small way, these words remind us that together we are “Greater Than” the many challenges we face as a community,”said Lisa Scails, Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance. “We are proud to unveil a banner signifying the common ground we all share. There’s no better time than now.”

The banner was created with the guidance and design talent of Toni Miraldi and Two Brushes in Newtown. The Connecticut Institute For Communities and CEO James Maloney supported the project. The Cultural Alliance plans to continue with a Dec. 4 discussion around art and community that the banner evokes. To register for this conversation, click here: http://bit.ly/art_and_community.
