City of Danbury LEVEL 2 Storm Emergency Thursday at 8am

City of Danbury LEVEL 2 Storm Emergency Beginning 2/18 at 8am -The Patriot Parking Garage will be free throughout the duration of the snow emergency.

The City of Danbury is expecting snowfall tomorrow morning that will continue throughout the afternoon. Additionally, we anticipate lingering snowfall on Friday. In anticipation of this storm, I am calling for a Level 2 Snow Emergency beginning tomorrow morning at 8 A.M. This will allow you until 10 A.M. tomorrow to move your cars off City streets or into the Patriot Garage to allow our Public Works crews the ability to safely clear our roads. The Patriot Parking Garage will be free throughout the duration of the snow emergency.

A Level 2 Snow Emergency also means that we are recommending limited travel. Please stay safe should you have to commute throughout the day. I appreciate your continued cooperation as we weather these winter storms. Thank you, stay warm and stay safe.

Snow Emergency Ordinance, Sec. 46-124.

(a) No vehicle shall be permitted to park or remain stationary on any City street or highway so as to obstruct, hinder or otherwise delay snow-and-ice-control operations. All such vehicles must be removed no later than two (2) hours after the start of a snow emergency, as defined herein, and may be returned after all snow-and-ice-control operations have ceased.

(b) The Police Department is authorized and empowered to take possession of and to remove any parked vehicle or vehicles which obstruct traffic or prevent snow or ice removal on such streets and highways.

(c) The procedure for removing and towing such vehicles shall be the same as that prescribed in this article relating to the removal of illegally parked vehicles. The cost, recording, recovery of such vehicles, violations and penalties are also as prescribed in this article.

(d) A snow emergency, pursuant to this section, is deemed to be in effect once declared by the Mayor, with and after consultation with the Director of Public Works or his designee, and upon the dispatching of snow and ice removal equipment.

(e) Upon such declaration by the Mayor, snow-and-ice-removal protocol, as may be established, shall be deemed to be in effect until the cessation of snow-and-ice-removal operations or as otherwise may be declared.
