United Way of Western Connecticut and Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito Announce 2023-2024 Funding Opportunity for Danbury Social Service Agencies

Danbury, CT (June 8, 2023) –Mayor Dean Esposito of the City of Danbury and United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) invite social service agencies that assist residents of Danbury to apply for funding through the City of Danbury Social Service Grant Program.

Agencies that provide services in the following three areas will be eligible for funding: 1) Housing and shelter; 2) Mental health; and 3) Food security. Funding is distributed through a one-year allocation process, with the grant covering the fiscal year of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

“I am proud that the City of Danbury will partner once again with the United Way of Western Connecticut to provide social service grants to our community,” said Mayor Dean Esposito. “This year's focus is on Housing and Shelter, Mental Health, and Food Security which all have been priorities of my administration. I welcome all of our community partners to apply for this grant opportunity to better our incredible city."

Since 2009, UWWC has administered the funding review process on behalf of the City of Danbury. Danbury residents are recruited and trained as volunteers to serve on a grant review committee. In this capacity, the committee reviews grant applications, listens to agency presentations, and makes funding recommendations to the City. Volunteer reviewers must be Danbury residents and attest to having no conflicts of interest with the agencies being reviewed. During the 2022-2023 cycle, 18 agencies were funded through the grant program.

Application materials are available at United Way of Western Connecticut’s website : www.uwwesternct.org/grant-opportunities. Completed applications and supporting documentation must be submitted on United Way’s grant software no later than noon on Saturday, July 1st at 5pm.

Agencies with questions about the application process and volunteers interested in serving on the grant review committee should contact Victoria Scofield at United Way of Western Connecticut ̶ (203) 883-6704 or victoria.scofield@uwwesternct.org.
