Edward Earl King
Edward Earl King was born September 24, 1958 in Ayden, North Carolina to Edith (Stewart) and James King. He passed away quietly on March 8, 2018 at Danbury Hospital.
Eddie, known to many as “AC” or “Big Daddy”, but most affectionately as Grandpa, came to CT in 1958. He worked at Eagle Pencil until leaving to work under the mentorship of Dick Pennell. The mentorship allowed Eddie to begin his own septic business, E. E. King Excavating.
Eddie was a founding member of the Afro-American Men’s Club and loved to watch westerns and old television shows. Eddie is a member of Cross Street AME and most recently enjoyed attending service at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church in New Britain, CT.
Eddie mostly loved spending time with his grandchildren and doing things with them and for them - in his eyes, they could do no wrong. Christmas was particularly special when he would shop for the largest tree and struggle to bring it into the house. Other passions include sailing and travelling, especially to Barbados.
Besides his parents, Eddie is predeceased by a sister Dolores K. Hector, brother-in-law Luther Hector, and niece Edith Dorene Whitaker. Eddie is survived by loving wife Betty A. (Dodson) King, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and god-children.
The family will hold an 11:00 AM viewing at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, 69 Rowan Street, Danbury, followed by a funeral service at Noon. Burial will take place immediately after the service in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury.
