Services planned for Johnnie Bracey, retired U.S. Postal supervisor in Danbury

Johnnie Bracey, age 80, of Danbury, husband of Dorothy (Purvis) Bracey, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Bracey was born in Camden, South Carolina, November 9, 1937, a son of the late Heyward and Ellamae (Alexander) Bracey.

He attended South Carolina schools and was a U.S. Army veteran.

A resident of Danbury for the past fifty-five years, Mr. Bracey was a retired U.S. Postal supervisor. He was stationed through his career in the Danbury, Stamford and Norwalk Post Offices.

A former member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a member of the Letter Carriers Union and a member of the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church of Danbury where he was a member of the Men’s Chorus and a Class Leader.

Mr. Bracey attended the Bethel Senior Center and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Mr. Bracey is survived by a son, Rodney Bracey and his wife, Valeriana Wick-Bracey; two daughters, Sheryl Drakeford, Selina Bracey Brown and her husband, Rev. Richard Brown; two brothers, Tillman Bracey and Eddie Bracey; three sisters, Cora Anderson, Mabel Duren and Carolyn Macon; three grandchildren, DeVonne Jones, Zaria Hunter and Korey Hunter as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11a.m. at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, Danbury, CT.

Interment will take place in the CT Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 12 noon.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant Church on Thursday morning from 10:30 am to 11am.
