Day of Action in Greater Danbury & New Milford on June 21

United Way's Day of Action 2018 is Thursday, June 21 in Greater Danbury & New Milford!

Join with hundreds of local volunteers for our annual days of volunteerism to complete a variety of service projects throughout Greater Danbury and New Milford, and the city of Stamford. Many of our projects focus on supporting agencies that help ALICE®households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) who struggle and live paycheck-to-paycheck, addressing needs related to health, education and financial stability. Stamford Day of Action will be Thursday, October 11, 2018.

At the heart of United Way’s strength are our dedicated volunteers--the hand raisers who step up to provide help and hope to those in our community who are struggling.

Join us for Day of Action 2018, when we mobilize volunteers in a variety of large-scale projects to benefit ALICE.

There are many ways to help our community on June 21:

Collect Books for Camp Wannaread!

We need books for our Camp Wannaread Literacy kits! Books can be purchased from our Amazon Wishlist (http://a.co/cwkCWI8) and shipped directly, or dropped off at our offices on Main Street in Danbury. Books will be collected through June 15: our goal is 400 books for area 2nd graders and our Day of Action Neighborhood Block Party.

Summer Meals Blitz Day

Join us as we partner with End Hunger CT! to promote free Summer Meals. The free Summer Meals are an extension of the National School Lunch Program when school is out. A Blitz Day is a day of outreach dedicated to increasing awareness within the community about the FREE Summer Meals Program. Volunteers will pound the pavement and distribute outreach materials throughout neighborhoods, businesses, and community locations to help spread the word about where kids and teens can enjoy free, nutritious meals throughout the summer.

Community Block Party

Following the Summer Meals Blitz, the community will be invited to attend a Block Party. Volunteers will be engaged to help with all aspects of the event from packing Camp Wannaread Literacy Kits to Stuffing a Bus full of books and learning materials to keep kids academically engaged during the summer break. Join us from 3-5 pm for the Community Block Party!

Camp Wannaread and Stuff A UPS Truck

It’s back - Camp Wannaread! Our reading camp in a bag helps combat summer reading loss, also known as summer slide,” by engaging second graders in reading and literacy activities over the summer. We need help sorting book donations and packing kits for local schools, as well as educational kits for all ages to Stuff a UPS Truck full of reading fun!

Improvement Projects

Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in improvement projects throughout the New Milford community.
